How plants create a natural sanctuary through repellents

Imagine yourself wandering through a Sicilian orchard filled with lemon trees. The gentle hum of bees and the flutter of butterflies fills the air. Yet, strangely, no biting insects disturb your peace. It’s because the plants around you possess a secret power - the power to repel bugs with their refreshing fragrance. Their secret lies in the complex chemistry of plant fragrances.

Some plants, like citronella and lavender, emit a unique blend of volatile compounds that serves as a protective aura. All nibblers keep safe distance. It’s as if the plants, trees and flowers are working together to create a natural sanctuary where they can all sustain life  and thrive. This is where Repel was born.

Regenerative, organic, bio-dynamic and wildcrafting

Team Lingua Planta is on a mission to get to know or meet all of our (future) growers, distillers and suppliers personally. For the Attract fragrance we visited Sylvia from Rose Overdosed in Bulgaria. Here we joined her to the fields of Kazanlak, to get acquainted with her practice, the regenerative garden that has been part of her family's heritage for years and the plants that product the magical Rose oil and Rosa Damascena absolute.

We also visited Enio Bonchev in their beautiful UNESCO rewarded distillery. They are the current distiller of the organic Rose absolute which we love very much. The story Vanya shared with us made us grateful to work with them.

Natural Repellent

Uplift your senses and reset yourself. Repel contains Sicilian Bergamot, Wild Orange, Lemon and invigorating pink Pepper in the top. A heart of Lavender absolute and Clary Sage lead to a grounding, sweet and lush Vetiver in the base. What binds all these natural materials is that they contain molecules plants produce to repel certain insects or other nibblers. Hence the name Repel. An invigoration perfume with a little extra.

Limonene (Natural isolate from lemon oil), Salvia sclarea (Clary Sage extract, France), Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender absolute, France), Chrysopogon zizanioides (organic Vetiver oil, Haiti), Ferula galbaniflua (Galbanum co2 extract, Iran ), Citrus clementina (Clementine peel oil, Italy), Schinus molle (wild harvested pink Pepper, Peru), Piper nigrum (organic Black Pepper, Madagascar), Cinnamomum camphora (Ho Wood bark oil, Japan), Citrus paradisi (Grapefruit, USA), Citrus bergamia (organic Bergamot, Italy), Citrus limon (organic Lemon peel oil, Italy).

Find a quiet space in your room where you can sit down. Spray Repel on your pulse points, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to settle in. Start visualizing a large yellow bubble surrounding you, creating a safe and natural sanctuary for your body and mind.

Imagine yourself inside the bubble, feeling the softness and warmth of the walls around you. Notice the gentle glow of the yellow light and the feeling of peace and calmness that envelops you. Allow yourself to fully relax and let go, feeling any stress, tension or anxiety melt away into the bubble.

Take a few deep breaths, breathing in the rejuvenating energy of your sanctuary and exhaling any negativity or worries. When you're ready to return, take one last deep breath and visualize the yellow bubble slowly dissolving, knowing that you can come back to this safe place whenever you need it with Repel.
