Acorn pomander to keep the forest close.

Cast in 14k gold–plated brass, this pendant takes the form of an acorn, a quiet symbol of strength, renewal, and hidden potential. More than adornment, it is a scented object: a wearable vessel of fragrance. It opens by twisting the cap to hold a small plaster bead, infused with the scent of oaks, that can be refilled. Over time, the gold-plated brass will develop a subtle patina, deepening its character and charm.

Oak fragrance

Oak reveals itself slowly, deliberately, to those who understand that the deepest conversations unfold in their own time.

Ritual & Ornament

Pomanders from the Middle Ages to the Rennaissance

Our fascination with the pomander began during our research into the rituals of scent: how fragrance was once worn, carried, and used not only for pleasure but for protection. In the Middle Ages, when disease and foul air were believed to spread through scents, people carried small, intricately crafted orbs filled with aromatic herbs, resins, and spices. These early pomanders were both adornment and amulet: a way to purify the air and shield the wearer from unseen forces.

Olfactory Heritage

By the Renaissance, the pomander evolved into an object of art and devotion. Crafted from silver or gold, often divided into tiny compartments for different scent materials, it hung from chains or was worn close to the heart. Inside, one might find clove, amber, rosemary, or frankincense, ingredients chosen not only for their aroma but for their symbolic and medicinal properties. Fragrance was understood as something alive, connecting the physical and the spiritual, the human and the divine.

At Lingua Planta, we were captivated by this tradition. The idea of perfume as something both intimate and protective, something you carry with you.

Our acorn-shaped pomander is inspired by these early designs: a small, wearable vessel for scent that bridges history and modern ritual. A reminder that the language of plants (and of perfume) has always been a way for humans to navigate the world through beauty, care, and connection.

Hierophany

Our Sense of Enchantment by Katherine May

“Our sense of enchantment is not triggered only by grand things; the sublime is not hiding in distant landscapes. The awe-inspiring, the numinous, is all around us, all the time. It is transformed by our deliberate attention. It becomes valuable when we value it. It becomes meaningful when we invest in meaning. The magic is of our own conjuring.

Hierophany - that revelation of the sacred - is something that we bring to everyday things, rather than something that is given to us. That quality of experience that reveals to us the workings of the world, that comforts and fascinates us, that ushers us towards a greater understanding of the business of being human: it is not in itself rare. What is rare is our will to pursue it. If we wait passively to be enchanted, we could wait a long time.”
